“Friendzone is the creative team of young producers James Laurence and Dylan Reznick. Like Balam Acab, their sound is sluggish, subconscious, and haunted. Their work has primarily appeared as instrumentals for Oakland hip-hop prodigies Main Attrakionz, like on “Perfect Skies,” where MCs Squadda B and Mondre M.A.N. spit over Friendzone’s fluffy beats (Laurence and Reznick also produced the video, posted above). The track deliciously combines the zoned-out sound of minimal, ambient drone music with simple, irresistible melodies and warped, banging 808 beats.
